Howdy Doody

Thats about about how I feel right now...kind of not doodiying too much, so I'll say howdy instead. So it was a good day today for progress around the farm...E. roto-tilled my garden area..and it looks divine with all the balck dirt turned over and very few weeds in that garden area. That is not to say the rest of the garden is fine. It is a weed patch that needs serious attention, but I see little asparagus heads poking up through the grass and all of my lillies are popped out of the ground, so despite the odds, plants continue to flourish whether we are there, or not, to baby them.
The sunshine brought out E and his powerwasher..a favourite of men.. like having an extreme sprayer in your hand.:-)

I swabbed down the upper deck with Mr. Clean before E, even made it up there, as it was so blackened with moss or fungus or whatever it is that grows in the shade. He finished it off with a good powerwash and then I cleaned the windows that I could reach, plus the glass on the railings. We graduated from one deck to the next and scrubbed down much of the siding on the back side of the house,as well as screens and windows and the glass and railing system. That went on until around four o'clock, when the thunder clouds rolled in and the lightening started happening on the mountain behind us. Our power did go out, but only for a few minutes, after the storm first moved up the lake towards Balfour, then returned back over the mountains behind us, to the south.Once more around the mountain and we would have built us a tornado!
We had our first hamburger BBQ off the season, but both of us were too tired to eat much. ( Did I mention that Emil made a plate of Natchos just prior to dinner?)
It will be be leftovers tomorrow night. After dinner, we both got horizontal and had an hour long catnap. Now I could go back to bed and sleep like a baby.
Good Night all and have a great week-end.

One More time

I'm sorry that the SpaceStation tracker didn't work... Try this for the schedule of when it will next be over your city. You'll have to input the correct data ,first, in the box on the left side of the page where it first asks which country you are in...go from there. Of course it is raining out tonight!

I did it!

I donned my heavy coat and grabbed my binoculars and stood outside for 10 minutes or more tonight to see if I could spot the International Space Station...and Whahoooooo...I did! i thought it would be travelling from S.W. to East, but it appeared instantly overhead, near the bowl end of the Big Dipper and from that point on, it shot northwards at an amazing speed, and disappeared over the mountain tops behind Kokanee. The whole sky was traversed in less than 2 minutes, and I was back in the house at 9 minutes to 11:00pm, our time. Thus, if you are skywatching, then keep scanning the directions mentioned in the Nasa chart, and don't give up...these next couple of weeks will offer up the best time to catch a glimpse of it. good Luck.
Also there are some near x-class sunspots happening and coming our way. The last time they reached x-class, we had an amazing Aurora Borelis show. Keep your eyes heavenward over the next few clear nights. Check Spaceweather for your sky news.
Check the International Space Station's schedule to see when your next opportunity to view it, is.

Hyatt Granola Chewies

Thanks Virginia, for the recipe for the fancy granola bars. First of all, one should insure that you have all the iingredients on hand before plunging in to make them. I was only missing the skim milk powder... (no huge deal, just a bit sloppier, I'd say)

I must say they keep your mouth ocupied and your tummy more than full, and apparently they will keep for 4 weeks without freezing. I doubt my pan full will last that long!'
so here goes.

Dry Ingredients

3 3/4 cup rolled oats ( not quick cooking)
3/4 cup sunflower seeds ( shelled)
2/3 cup pumpkin seeds ( no pumpkin)
3/4 cup sesame seeds
1 cup all bran
3/4 cup cashews
1/2 cup pecans
2/3 cup walnuts
3/3 cup sliced almonds
3/4 cup raisins or cranberries ( I nuked my cranberries with a bit of water first,so as to soften them)
3/4 cup skim milk powder
1 tsp. cinnamon

Mix the above altogether in a very large bowl

for the liquids, measure into a cooking pot:

7/8 cup of honey ( I added about a half cup more of brown sugar)
1 c. canola oil
1/4 plus 1/8th cup of molasses

Bring that mixture to a light boil, then allow to cool before pouring over the dry ingredients and mixing it thoroughly.

Line a large cookie sheet with parchment or tinfoil, and spray with Pam. Spread the mixture out and bake for 12 minutes. I baked mine at 300*. You do not want the raisins to burn.
Take out of oven and seperate or cut into 2x4' squares. Enjoy for a snack-lots of nutty flavours here..and filling too.
Yum.
Virginia and Corey got those as a snack when they were at the Spa at the Clagary Hyatt hotel.. said they were yummy, and they are.

Time for bed...my eyes are itching and my nose is stuffed...I think I shared the cat's pat with my eyeballs.
Have a great night everyone!
