Richard Reid Studio

Richard Reid Studio
If you like art on the abstract side ,take a peek here. I visited Richard's studio in the summer and quite enjoyed his lively and colourful works...especially the "Lovers" watercolour. I see he has produced several more in that series, since then, but I feel the first is still the strongest.

Bleak Day for a Saturday

Okay, face it, winter is here. Snowflakes were drifting down and it is a complete white-out behind Kokanee . I have been once again, trying to get my archives to work, but so far no luck from my end, and no response from blogger, so I am at a bit of a standstill, as I have altered every setting possible- I think. Bear grr with me and I am sure I will be rescued!
I cleared a space in the living -room for our tree. E. will bring it up tonight and perhaps we can get it assembled and then I can decorate things up next week.
Meanwhile I am getting my drapes ready to hang....decided to try "Dryel". I am in the process of freshening them up and ironing them. Now to get E. to put up the rods...Wasn't I supposed to do that last week? I'm working on it.
I nearly have my shopping done, except for more stocking stuffers...maybe food this year for everyone...a canned ham, a cauliflower, and an apple...Lets see, what do kids like? Maybe a boiled egg, a piece of coal, an onion...ha-ha! Now how do you wrap those things? I discovered I have a fair amount of wrapping paper which is a good thing...but I don't see anything upstairs wrapping itself...
With that said I better "Dryel" another drape, and finish off my cards...

C& J sent Photos of their Nepal Trip! Thanks!

A shot of a street in Khatmandu...lots of wares on display for the tourists!
My day has been brightened with these terrific shots from Nepal that C sent me this morning..and asked to have them posted..I am more than happy to show them off. The se and other photos I saw were excellent and most interesting, outlining their jouney. This will give you a taste of what is to come when C gets her albumn all built! Enjoy!

The great Himalayans with Everest in back

Yep, this is the pinnacle of C&J's trip, a clear view of the mountains they had come to see. C. explains it as thus: Mount Everst is the one at the left at back, Nuptse ridge in front of Everest, and Lhotse to the right. I'll let you pinpoint those peaks! It would be the pits to hike all that way and then not be able to see Mt. Everest for clouds. I guess that is why there are preferred times of the year to make that journey, and they chose the best!
Enjoy the photos and have a great day. It is back to Christmas cards and laundry for me...hey just a month until old St. Nick arrives. and Happy American Thanksgiving to all of our American friends ! I am so starved, I could eat a turkey right now...time for some lunch. I pray it isn't cold salad!

That is C, up front, leading the pack. She called these numerous bridges "Bothersome!" Posted by Hello

This a shot of the valley dotted with houses in the Mount Everest region. Look closely to see the trail to the right, I believe. They hiked from far below the shadow of the mountain you see to your right, if I remember correctly.( A long trek) Posted by Hello

SHNOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!

And snow, it did! They lied, they lied!
Ron Lakeman said it would turn to showers after lunch...NOT! It snowed giant flakes all day and turned to rain at about the same time the power went out. Thankfully it came back on before dinner.
Nothing revolutionary going on, but I tell you, if you are trying to do an online order from Sears , be prepared to spend a bit of time at it! They didn't seem to understand our postal code in relationship to the pick-up depot in Nelson, yet when I entered a city postal code, it immediately picked up every Sears location from Trail to Kaslo and Nakusp. I guess we really do live on the fringe!
Time to watch American Idol Christmas with Fantasia and Reuban and Kelly Clarkson singing...I wonder if we'll see Clay Aikin? Oh yes, he was a runner up...so maybe not.

Looks like winter is here to stay this time round Posted by Hello

Asian Chicken Packets and Oriental Cabbage Salad

Aghh...the flakes have turned into jumbo blobs now...a sign that we are indeed encountering winter as much as we would rather have it stay in some other country!
Time to get on with the cards and some gift wrapping, since it looks like Christmas with all of the fresh snow.
I had a productive day yesterday, making three double batches of various berried jams, in order to clear out some of the fruit in my freezer, if I ever want to do some baking and store it frozen. My other hope is for a continual cold front which will allow me to use the table on the balcony as an extended freezer!
Lawrence popped out yesterday for dinner and overnight. He even enjoyed our "Diet dinner". I made up these "*Asian Chicken" packets containing an assortment of veggies, along with an "Oriental Cabbage Salad " made of shredded cabbage, mixed with a dressing of 2 tblsps of rice wine vinegar, and 2 tablsps of sesame oil. Chill the salad and then stir in 2 tablespoons of toasted sesame seeds. It all went together nicely .

Asian Chicken Packets

The chicken packets were simply 3-4 chicken breasts sliced into strips and then marinated with fresh chopped garlic, minced fresh ginger ( I used a good two inch piece of the root!) and 3 tablespoons of light soya sauce, a third of a cup of sherry or cooking wine, 3 green onions chopped finely and 2 teaspoons of sesame oil, tossed into a zip-lock baggy for a few hours or overnight. Into a bowl, slice a red bell pepper, 1 package of snow peas, a package or fresh ( 10 ounces) of broccoli florets , and one can of sliced water chestnuts. I added some aspargus and green pepper slices,as I had a lot on hand.

To assemble, you'll need one 12"x 18" sheet of tinfoil for each person ( or packet). Centre an equal portion of the chicken mixture on the tinfoil and add a portion of the mixed veggies, then double fold the tops of the packets and seal the ends. Bake at 400* on a baking sheet for about 18 minutes, or instead , you could grill the mixture on a George FOreman grill. It might be a little messy I'd be thinking, because the chicken is quite juicy with marinade, and that part would run off the George Foreman grill...so I think the packets are a better idea. Served with the salad it made a tasty light meal.
Enjoy!

CBC.ca - The Greatest Canadian - Voting
Don't forget to cast your vote for the greatest Canadian...Tommy Douglas, tho, I have to admit that the documentary about Pierre Trudeau tonight, was very compelling...He would have been my second choice and Terry Fox, my third choice...go ahead and vote..The results will be announced next Monday.

Poor old BC Lions!

We enjoyed a bit of a Grey Cup party over at Bill and Sue's yesterday, but sadly had to watch the Lions go down to defeat to the Argonauts-word argonaut meaning an adventurer engaged in a quest. Thought I'd put that in there since one gal at the party was curious to know what the name was..it came from Jason who was in search of the "Golden Fleece" back in Greek Mythology days.
E. won $10.00 in the pool, but Bill took the final score and won $20.00! We had some fun and got in good visits with the neighbours and met another couple, Kim and Sarah, who are relatively new to the area and live across the lake from us. All in all a good afternoon with low carb snacks...except for the butter tarts that Marlene brought..yummy since they were the same recipe as mine! Now it is back to the diet again! Speaking of food, I am hungry now and could use my snack of an apple and peanut-butter...
Then it is laundry time and time to check out the curtain rods..I did get the drapes all finished...all 6 panels...now to clean them and hang them!
Have a great day...

"Planked Salmon" continued from November 19th

Half inhaled, this is my plate after we started in on the Girard Rainbow cooked on the BBQ on a cedar Plank!
Probably because it was so freezing cold outside, it took much longer than the suggested 10-12 minutes to cook...more like 20 minutes. So Yay or Nay to the plank...I say Nay and get yourself a shiny piece of tinfoil sprayed with Pam before you set the fish down on it, then onto the BBQ. Perhaps the plank was supposed to catch a little more on fire or smoke up a bit more, but I sincerely think it was too cold out. E. had to fire up the burner under the plank, as the fish was not cooking. So there you have it. The fish was delicious..it melted in your mouth like a piece of fresh lobster...so rich..and so tasty with the dill and lemon juice and curls of red onion... See November 19th post for the recipe...forget the plank! Posted by Hello

Here we are at the start of the dinner. You can't beat that Italian salad and the wonderful meatballs and chicken...not to mention the spagetti! I passed on the JO-JO potatoes, but that is a trademark feature at this restaurant. Nothing fancy, but the food is always hot and doesn't vary from day-to-day! Thanks for the nice evening out, and Happy 90th Birthday to AUntie Frazetta..a milestone for sure! Posted by Hello

The Brewers" Before"

Here is a nice photo that Frazer sent me some time ago of Auntie being real proud of her four boys. From the left is Dale, then Frazer,Dapper Glen, and Les on the far right.. Nice to see our four cousins altogether once again for their mom, who now suffers from Alzheimers..Her lively spirit has touched all of our hearts, from her love of Ainsworth Hot-Springs to her love for games of Scrabble and Rumoli and cards. ( and the goat milk). We enjoyed many visits back and forth over the years, thats for sure. I'll have the "After" photos tomorrow! Posted by Hello

Grandma( Ida) and Grandpa(Henry) Brewer

These are a few of the Brewer elders, with a few mystery people that no one seems to know.
Why is our Grandpa Henry Brewer looking like he has just spent a year in Jamaica? And he is holding that pipe that Lynn and I used to fill with tea and go try to smoke it in Gramma's bathroom! Old Gramma Brewer would be hollaring at us "I know you two are up to something in there.." We just kept on flushing the toilet, pretending we never heard her! Posted by Hello
