Happy Thanksgiving Weekend
I worked at yesterday and have to say that they have a whole new line of lovely gifts in for the Christmas season. Especially neat were a large variety of crib boards for the men, shaped like hockey rinks, golf bags, and curling stones,to name a few, and painted with the corresponding sports field or rink. Very cute, because the pegs were miniature hockey sticks, or golf clubs etc. Also, they have an assortment of very neat Xmas decorations, and beautiful new table linens in all of the fall and Xmas metalic colours. The tablecloths are decorated with tear-drop beads bordering each of the corners. Very Chi-Chi!
Deb has also brought in a size assortment of trendy earth-toned velvety pillows for your couch or bed , at a reasonable price.
It was a busy day in the sore yesterday with visitors from all over Canada an even tourists from Spain and Great Britain! Nelson is an ecclectic city with lots to offer, thus drawing people from all over the world!
I had to laugh tho when people watching out the window...only in Nelson can you see the following:
A man pulling a child's wagon with a little girl sitting in it, atop an overturned large coffee can!
A six year old with short hair at the back in a brunette colour and the sides were much longer and a bright cherry/bergundy!
Another man, pulling a red wagon-This time the passenger was a cocker spaniel standing on all fours, enjoying the ride!
Only in Nelson!
So my feet were killing me after standing on them all day, and going up and down their two flights of stairs about thirty times..a good work-out for the achilles parts, but the old peds were tired dogs by the time I got home.
Ok gang..time to get the hot-tub chemicals up to snuff, do a little vacuuming, a little ironing, and then clean the toities and I'll be ready to get ready for my drive to the airport. John and Ronda will be here with E's mom by noon, so no more time to waste!
Have a Very Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I'll be giving thanks when I can soak away in the hot-tub...even if I need my 'brelli- Thats where I'll be later on tonight...
Enjoy your turkey! Ours is thawing as we speak! Stuffing is made- hint : Put some popcorn in the stuffing and when the butt blows out of the turkey, you'll know it is cooked!

Russian Borscht.

I better qualify that and add that it is My Version of Borscht.
Yep, that is my huge pot ,full to the brim with borscht that I made today..It is all jarred up and ready for the eaters on the week-end!
Here is the recipe:
Russian Borscht:
This is a long half day project but to speed things up, do your chopping the night before…
It involves a very large canner sized pot for the stock and the finished product and also you will need another heavy bottomed pot like a pressure cooker to cook down the canned tomatoes to a puree. Last but not least, you’ll require a very large fry-pan.
By Bea Shumey
PUREE 2 CANS OR 2 QTS.TOMATOES in large heavy bottomed pot –I use my pressure cooker) FOR 2040 MIN.
HAVE SEVERAL (3) STALKS OF CELERY finely CHOPPED,1 CAULIFLOWER-BROKEN UP into small florets , 2 GR.PEPPERS IN small BITE -SIZED PIECES,2-4 LRG. ONIONS Diced
IN BIG STOCK POT (CANNER) PUT 24 C. COLD WATER
4 PEELED BEETS
4 POTATOES (or more if they are small) -2 IN CUBES,2 IN HALVES
4 CARROTS -2 SLICED LONG, 2 CHOPPED SMALL
IN FRYING PAN WITH 1/4 LB. BUTTER OR MORE
FRY 3 or 4 CHOPPED ONIONS
PUT CHOPPED CARROTS AND POTATOES (ALL) IN STOCK POT WITH BEETS.ADD 1/2 OF PUREED TOMATOES AND 1/4 LB. BUTTER
BOIL and it can be salted at this point, to taste.
ADD 3 STALKS OF diced CELERY TO THE FRYING ONIONS IN FRY PAN WITH THE BUTTER.SAUTE FOR 5 MIN. ADD REST OF tomatoe PUREE AND THIN SHREDDED Cabbage( ONE HEAD OR two, IF THEY ARE SMALL)-( CABBAGE). ANY COARSE STUFF CAN GO INTO THE STOCK POT . COVER WITH A LID, FRY, STIRRING OCCASIONALLY UNTIL CABBAGE IS SOFT.
TAKE COOKED POTATOES OUT OF BORSHT-

TAKE OUT THE BEETS.... ONE or more MAY BE CHOPPED-UP AND RETURNED TO THE STOCK POT-TOSS THE REST.
PUT FRIED CABBAGE AND ALL FROM FRY PAN INTO STOCK POT.
PUT SOME BORSHT INTO POTATOES TO WARM YOUR CREAM BEFORE RETURNING TO BORSHT. 1/2 AND 1/2 MAY BE USED INSTEAD OF CREAM.
ADD CHOPPED CAULIFLOWER, CHOPPED GR.PEPPERS, AND LOTS OF FRESH DILL.....ADD SALT AND PEPPER TO TASTE-SIMMER A BIT IF YOU CAN STAND TO BEFORE DIVING INTO A BOWL OF IT WITH FRESH BREAD. DO NOT EVER BOIL YOUR BORSCHT ONCE YOU HAVE THE CREAM ADDED OR THE CREAM WILL CURDLE. Bea

Looks like a Hallowe'en treat, but really it is a scoop of the borscht I made today...many of the veggies were from my garden, including the tomatoes, carrots and beets...Yum!

Bob Dylan's Chronicles Volume 1...
You can read or listen to excerpts from Bob Dylan's newly released self penned histories of his life. Interesting to see his perspective in the three pages that are available to read. I'll have to see if I can latch onto it some day, since I've always admired Dylan.

Fat Fingers - Find typos and misspellings on eBay
This is an awesome site if you are an e-bayer...look up an object and see if you can find it spelled incorrectly. Chances are it may not even be in the right section if it is, and chances are good that no-one else has bid on the mis-spelled item...thus it could be a deal for you!

Do you have a few of these stink-bugs kicking around? This is the season for them, alright! This guy is my bathroom pet, named Albert. When you give him a drink he extends his very long probiscus and sucks it up!

In town today...
This batch is destined for a pot of borscht- the reason for my little jaunt into town today.
I stopped off at Maglios ( Maggots) to pick up a chemical for our hot-tub and noticed this "Linger-er" in the tool section. Dressed nondescript, in army green duds, he gained my attention due to his waist - long dredlocks. Being that he wasn't more than five-six tall, his dreds seemed to be four feet long at the least.
(Not that I am biased, cause Nelson has its share of dreddy people, but one always does wonder if there is an unseen life-form residing in the depths of those unkempt locks. (yelcgh))
Back to the story... Dreddy boy and I end up at the counter at the same time.. me with my bottle of Eliminate 2 and him sporting a two foot long pair of fire engine red Bolt Cutters. Now this was a serious tool - ( nearly as big as him), and he was claiming it was in the 20% off section. Well, the cashier wasn't buying that, and went about sending more cashiers to check out the display and phoning the office and rescanning these beautiful big red bolt cutters.
( I am still standing there with my bottle of Eliminate 2)
22 year old Dreddy boy is all agiggle saying,"But they were hanging in THAT 20% off section!"
Now, I know for a fact that he was in that section when I arrived in the store, and he was there for some time, because I spent time looking for my chemical product, and we both arrived at the check-out at the same time.
If one was specifically looking for giant bolt cutters, there wouldn't be too many to choose from, I'd think. Draw your own conclusions.
I drew mine.
I suspect that Maggots gave the guy a token five bucks off, in the end, because I think they were afraid that those bolt cutters might later on make their way through THEIR fence, surrounding the store.
I wonder how many of those Bolt Cutters get sold to 22 year olds, on a regular basis???? 22 year olds driving a decent truck? A red Toyota truck? Licence Plate # ...well, I have it:-)
Have a good one!!!
