Peter's Carrot Cookies

Here is the "Carrot Cookie" recipe from the kitchen of "The Cookie Monster"( My neighbour, Peter)

1cup crisco
3/4 cup sugar
1 cup shredded carrots (cook in micro for 3min.with a little water)
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp baking powder

Combine ingredients in order given. Mix & drop on ungreased pan
Bake 8 - 10 min.@ 400 Deg.

There you have it! Handful of raisins or sunflower seeds to spruce them up is an option. Anything , whatever you like, or just plain!
I added both raisins and sunflower seeds ,and used the golden crisco...very good and would probably be as good with half the fat, but it isn't like I make them but twice a year! Also there is a new Trans fat free crisco out...I'll get that next time...ok?

Happy Baking!!!

Golden Crisco is what I used, tho apparently there is a new Trans Fat -Free Crisco out, in a green can..probably only in the USA... Posted by Hello

Good Hot Day Morning

Just uploaded those pics from our day yesterday over at Aunty Mary's with Virginia and baby, followed by a little visit with Lynn, a stopover at Lawrence's, and then dinner at Joyce's...Busy day yesterday, but great to see everyone, and as you can see by our gorgeous sunrise today, I think I will have a busy day outside between gardening and finishing E's mowing job...It looks like summer is finally on its way...Maybe even a beach day later on!
I will set out my cucs today that I have been growing in the house. After seeing Auny Mary's garden yesterday, it is pretty clear that I have to start planting stuff a hell of a lot earlier!!! Her potatoes were two feet tall and the peas are up that high also! I won't even upload the pics of my pathetic attempt at a garden...I might be picking lettuce in a week!

You can see any of my photos in a full size format by clicking on them. I haven't experimented with how a person can save the images, but you might try right-clicking and do a save image as choice.
I was delighted when I saw the flock of Cedar Waxwings having their little bath in the sprinkler...s-o-o cute..must have been thirty of them in the tree. Years ago, they would only come to the exterior perimeter of the property, but now that the trees are larger and I have feeders with more birds around, the waxwings have been arriving at my doorstep for the past two years...nice to see them so close because of their beautiful markings..a little black "bandit" stripe over their eyes...and a touque on their heads.
Okay time to put my hanging basket plants into the new moss lined metal baskets I bought, and plant the odds and sods of leftovers .
The dumb deer ate every pansy in a little planter I had under the tree... Must of looked like salad to them!
Time to head to the garden!

You'll have to click on this one to enlarge the Cedar Waxwing bird in the tree...I love these little guys! Posted by Hello

I put on the sprinkler and had a flock of Cedar Waxwings arrive for an early morning birdbath. I hope you enlarge this one to take a look at these very cool "Bandits" Posted by Hello

Half Past my Bedtime and Happy Belated Birthday , Kaleigh

It has been a rather busy two days...both with trips to Castlegar and both trips pretty much taking the entire day. I thought I'd do a blog-drive by here before I hit the hay and at least upload some of this morning's peonie shots. Their aroma is heavenly, delicate and a lovely thing to be greeted with when one ventures down to the garden.I wish I could upload that for you too!
Virginia and I and her very cutie-pie baby drove over to see Auntie Mary Kooch today. The baby is just the sweetest and both Auntie Mary and Uncle Paul loved her to bits. Of course, it wouldn't do, unless we sat at the table and had tea and rhubarb cake ( with a crumb topping) and several varieties of homemade cookies and also animal crackers special boughtfor Baby K. Baby was most interested in finding every plug-in at her level, but managed to not get a shock -thank heavens, as you know what can happen when everyone is yapping-all it takes is a second and zap!

We took plenty of photos which I will try to upload, tomorrow.
After a tour of Auntie's garden, we assessed her Irises-(found out she requires a yellow one to brighten up her patch) and made our way out the gates after another fifteen minutes of rose and flower viewing went on.
Lynn arrived at Timmy's just ahead of us and was giving Co-Co a little walk when we pulled in. She was delighted to see Virginia and Baby, and we took more photos and then had a coffee once we found a table and unloaded a moving truck's worth of stuff onto and around it... stroller, wedding photos, baby gifts, baby diaper bags, baby utensils, baby foods, cameras and coats and what-nots..Baby entertained us while she enjoyed her lunch and Lynn had a look through all the new wedding photos...By then it was well after 4:00 and we still had another stop to make before heading back to Nelson...Long day...
I'll have to continue tomorw...see? I can't typo anymo...fingers are tyred and arthritis struck...g'nite...thanks to all who sent me funnies today and yesterday...lots of good ones...g'nite

Bonus Day on the Beach...

Yes, My day ended with a lovely walk with Silk on the beach...and much to my surprise , the water rose a full four or five feet...overnight, so it seems. Now usually a storm or a quick water rise brings forth a few goodies on the beach...well, some aren't so great..styrofoam chunks from various floating devices are my pet peeve, but along with those, we usually get a dowdy hand made fish plug, a piece of rope, a plastic container which once held maggets ( ugh), a plastic bag, one thong, a sorry looking ball cap, several bloated oranges, a chocolate bar or Natcho wrapper, a kids sand shovel, unidentifiable plastic pieces, and worst of all broken glass.
Today however, is what I'd call a "Bonus Beach Day" because I was the recipient of something extra super special. I might add that it arrived at the far end of the beach, past the lagoon...
I spotted what appeared to be a geranium floating near shore..Upon closer inspection, it was more than just a geranium, it was an entire fiber planter filled with not only a geranium but also another trailing plant sporting water-logged purple trumpet shaped flowers. The fact that the container hadn't long ago sunk to the bottom of the lake, is in itself amazing, but for me to be the finder of it, I thought it pretty lucky.
So do I put a found ad in the Penny wise? "FOUND, ONE LARGE FLOATING PLANT POT- OWNER MAY IDENTIFY BY NAMING THE CONTENTS"
I could have been happier with a MING vase or even a Home Depot Knockoff- cardboardy fiber whatever, isn't my idea of the ideal planter...however, since it arrived, and I was the finder, I'll keep it till it blooms. If it is one of those orangey red geraniums, the ad is definately going into the Penny Wise. If, on the other hand it is a special colour, then I'll have to think about it.After all, I packed it a loooooong way!
That would be about 800 meters or so with the last stretch uphill, towards home...and a waterlogged geranium and partners are plenty heavy...especially when you are trying to maneuver a dog and a BEER!
So there is your laugh for the day..The Beast finds a Geranium!

Did I tell you that I planted nearly my entire garden today? It was a slow start, but once I got moving, I managed to rake it all, assign the rows, add fertilizer, mushroom manure and even potting soil for the cucs. If all grows well, we will be making Salsa, canning dills and making that delicious Zuccini relish later in the summer! I planted three zuccini plants. One is plenty and two means BBQ'd Zucs every day!If three survive, one is going to go to the auction!
I'll pass along the BBQ recipe as the zucs begin to ripen...Yummy.
OKEY-DOKEY...E. is game for a hot-tub, if I get mobile. I could use it after all the bending in the garden today! I was going to plant Zinnias and guess what...pkg says to plant them JUNE 10th! I have to admit , it is no heat wave out there, for sure. My poor tomatoe plants that I set out are looking wind blown and bleached. I hope they survive till heat sets in!
My peonie that was just a bud this morning has begun to unfold...the fragrence is wonderful. I'll have to run out and get a pic tomorrow morning. Irises aren't far behind! Time to Tub..
Here is a not so great pic of my garden space that I planted today...It is bigger than it looks!

Here is my fav...about to bloom, a Japanese Pink Peoni. The fragrance is pure heaven! Posted by Hello

Chapter 24 continued

Just a note to say goodnight..I thought I would preview an iris as the next few weeks should provide a bounty of Iris Photos. They are all in fat buds and ready to burst open as soon as we get sun for more than a day. My Japanese pink Tree peonies are leaning right over with the rains, the buds are so heavy! All the poppies are in also in fat buds and the lilacs are still gorgeous.
My next task will be to plant the garden that is tilled...That is a load of garden, but half of the space will be devoted to the creepy crawlers..Cucs and squash and Sonia's favourites, Paddy Pan squash...called Sunny Delights if you order them from Stokes.
In the meantime here are a few more Wedding photos of my niece, Nadine and her new hubby, Dick.

Chapter 24

I said to myself today:"Everyday without blogging is like 24 chapters in my life that need to be told" So this is Chapter 24 working backwards...First of all aren't those the sweetest pics of Virginia's little cutie. They arrived yesterday, after Morgan picked them up in Radium. We are going to try to pay a visit to Auntie Mary Kooch's sometime this week...and maybe a trip up to the hotsprings at Ainsworth.
Chapter23: The Weather has been the perfect shits sun/rain/wind in a continual whirly gig of weather for the past week. Just enough time for you to get bundled up to go outside, only to have to throw off your jacket when the sun comes out for five minutes and then run for your life scrambling to pick up garden tools and find your jacket before a mini huricane blows you and yours to Kingdom Kum. That process re-occurs hourly and has been repeating said cycle for the past week or so. You get the idea.

Lynn was so kind as to help me get my spindly home grown tomatoe plants, planted on Thursday, and yesterday I spent a few hours between rainstorms digging up another 10'x20' patch of dirt for the remainder of the plants ( about 40 in all...I know...I am crazy!)I was too exhausted to finish planting them and perhaps that was a good thing because Emil tilled up the rest of my garden today between storms..
