Absolutely Sunny Today

T'was the nicest day ever today...felt like spring!!! We are off to parts west ...I'll be back when I get back...Have a great week-end...

Town today

Checked out this great little store in town called Faerry Isle...right on Baker Street next to where Georama's used to be ( now that has also changed hands and is a new snowboard shop). Back to the Faerry Isle shop...they are carrying wonderful household dry goods from exciting bright patterned tablecloths to jute area rugs. In between, they have a beautiful assortment of curtains, towels, candles, some lamps and accessories ranging from table napkins to cushions and cushion covers. Worth checking into, if you are walking the south side of Baker. Speaking of town, if you haven't checked out the Fresh Fish Shop on Ward, then take some time to have a bite of lunch there ( just up the street from Still Eagle) with a nice hot bowl of fresh and creamy clam chowder, or a fresh salmon and cream cheese bagel. Then, bring home the fresh catch of the day wrapped in newspaper! All looked tasty and fresh to me! ( I only indulged in the clam chowder...yummy)
I swung by the swimming pool today to pick up a schedule and check out when the next set of Osteo-fit classes begin. My neighbour, S. and I are considering taking the next class, since her osteo is getting worse, and I feel like I have been run over by a steam roller every morning when I try to launch myself out of bed. I bought some chewable lemon flavoured ( is that what it is???)Glucosomine and Chondroitin pills containing MSM today and decided to try some of Walmart's calcium pills that look to be of a size I can swallow. The Glucosomine helps for sure, but I am not so sure about these chewable things ...they look like tums on steroids!
I blew away three hours in town and came home and transplanted my Hoya into a new large white self watering pot that can be hung...and is hanging, now that I screwed the swing out white curley leaf bracket, into the wall near the corner of the Pink bathroom. It will give my hoya the right kind of light and get it out of the kitchen sink area that it had out grown. I fiddled with painting yet another layer onto the lazy susan ( after the two coats of varathane) and now it may be very close to being finished. When this layer dries, I'll give it two more Final coats of varathane.... for about ten layers now. LEts say it should have "depth"...my hubbie's famous description for any work of art..."It has depth!" Gotta give him credit for trying..
So, a busy day tomorrow getting myself and Silk packed and ready for our drive over to Chrstna Lke and onto Klwna on Friday, then off to Van on Saturday.. We'll pick up the new beaux in K. and he'll drive down with us...The fellows are all going to a special hockey game on Sunday and moi...I think I'll shop or visit someone...or do both!

This is so awesome that I had to pass it along...

Now here is something to help you "see the big picture"...This is awesome...

Florida State University has put up a very interesting Java applet on their website. It begins as a view of the Milky Way Galaxy viewed from a distance of 10 million light years and then zooms in towards Earth in powers of ten of distance -10 million, to one million, to 100,000 light years, etc., until it finally reaches a large Oak tree leaf. But that is not all. It zooms into the leaf until it reaches to the level of the quarks viewed at 100 attometers. WOW! Click Here
Take the 30 seconds to view this--you will be glad you did, like I was.

Happy Hibiscus Day!!

This Morning, I thought I'd share something that quirky that is happening with my ten year old Hibiscus......It is making seed pods! How about that? About four months ago, it did make one seed pod with seven seeds in it, and I threw the seeds into the dirt below and voila...two little plants started and have survived. They are about one inch tall with two regular leaves now... and I am anxiously waiting to see if they will grow to a size where they produce flowers and what colour they will be since the original hibiscus is composed of two plants- a red on one side and yellow on the other.

Red Hibiscus

Yellow Hibiscus

So the Quirky thing now is that I have found one more seed pod with two seeds in it ( they are a little larger, but resemble a sweet pea seed) and I have planted those, but guess what? I can see three more pods forming...This is very amazing, since it is the dead of winter and there isn't even a house-fly in the house!
The only life form besides E and the dog and me are the Cedar Beetles...they seem to be crawling out of the woodwork. I did find three on my hoya one day, but have never noticed them on the hibiscus! Do you think they do they could be responsible for pollinating ? At night? When I can't see them??? I'll keep you posted... Have a great day.. . I never made it to town yesterday, but will head out today, since it has stopped snowing now...

Dynamicdrive

I am yearning to learn more about using CSS and DHTML. ..You can find out more about Dynamic Html Dynamic Drive DHTML code library

My "Triple" turned "Double!"

I used seedy, wheaty, grainy bread and toasted it for a nutty flavour , but opted for 3 slices of bread, instead of the four and decided that the tomatoes could live on top of the avacado. It was still delicious and even Silk enjoyed a few bites! See below for the entire recipe...

Good Tuesday morning... and "Triple" sandwich recipe made with avacadoes, tomatoes, and boiled eggs.

Okay, so one shouldn't leave their 2 eggs to boil while they go check their e-mail! They weren't boiled dry, but close to it! I was already thinking about lunch and "Triple
( pronounced tree-play) sandwiches! They are a mainstay in Lima, Peru and are offered at nearly every restaurant...even the airport!
Ingredients: 4 thin slices fresh white bread
butter
mayonaise
one very ripe avacado
ripe tomatoe slices ( tomatoe can be peeled first) (salted and peppered)
one or two boiled eggs, sliced or mashed ( salt and pepper)
The way they are constructed involves four (thin) slices of very fresh white bread, three slices buttered and spread with a little mayo, one plain. So lay they slices out , buttered side up and save the unbuttered one for the top closure.
On the first layer, arrange slices of ( peeled) ripe and tasty tomatoe; cover with the next buttered mayoed slice of bread, buttered side up, and on this layer you slice fresh very ripe avacado..nice and thick ( or you could pre-mash it, then spread it out);and for the third (hence "triple") layer on your third slice of buttered bread, slice your hard boiled eggs or spread your mashed egg filling.
Cover with the last slice of bread and slice sandwich diagonally both direstions. Hold each quarter together with a toothpick...
Very yummy...especially since the avacadoes in a 4 pack were on sale at Superstore.
Enjoy

Here is a photo of Co-co..

He is L's cute little doggie, but full of beans! keeps the Silk on her toes. Oh yes, a big thank-you to L. for the lovely bouquet of spring flowers...made my Valentines day, as did the yummy chocolates from E and the over all stress free weekend.
Talked to the kids yesterday and A. is all excited to get on with moving up to Klwna. We will go down to help her pack up and move , on the week-end.
Poor little K. has a bad cold...I guess that is what kids get when they go to school with a hundred other kids.. Hope she is feeling better today.

3:12 today, Feb 16th...
Mark that on your calendar as the day that E. finished putting up all the baseboards and casings in the old part of the house YIPEEEEEE. I have filled in the nail holes and now have to do touch ups with paint but I think I have run out of gas for tonight. E. spent the first half of the day wiring up the four speakers in the living room and the last half doing the casings and remaining baseboards.I helped him with threading the speaker wire and then did a major cleanup in the basement where he had moved everything out of the way so he could tack up the speaker wire and run it under the living room floor and along the joists. This was a good time to vacuum behind the freezer, washer and dryer and vacuum out the electronic filters in the furnace. They were a mess, but with all of the sanding and sawing, I guess the dust has to go somewhere.
I washed the floors down there and put everything back in place while doing a little sorting and tidying up...a can of tonic water opened up just a hair and slowly leaked through the pop box and under my little cupboard... a gooey mess to contend with.
I stripped two beds and washed the sheets and finished ironing three of E's shirts and a couple of turtle necks...now you know why I am pooped.
Check out my latest link for an environmental site called Care2 that has free email and web-sites that you can click on to help with contributions for everything from Breast Cancer to saving pets from abuse... Have a great evening...time for some of those crispy dry wings and a beer...thats on Atkin's isn't it???

Not so many Boids

Cuz. L. came over on Saturday and brought her doggie Co-co...much to Silky's dismay. Being slightly younger, all he wanted to do was to hump and jump and run and roll and be VERY close to Silk. By the end of the week-end she mellowed out and let him lie right next to her which was cute to see. L and I tried the bird count thing today without much luck... 7 species and 18 birds...10 of them Mallard ducks. On any given day we usually have a better variety right around the house, and today, our count included a little cross country ski trip along the lake and up into a field and back. Hardly a bird in sight, and certainly not any of the bald eagles.

Last night, we had a delicous Valentine's dinner out with A&D, our Brit neighbours...just over to the BBI ( local pub), but they opened the dining room and had the tables all set up cozily with lace table cloths and flowers on the table...plus , each of the ladies received a beautiful long stemmed yellow rose! The service was a little slow to begin, but once the wine came, we seemed to no longer care and in a few more minutes our salads and entre's arrived. L and myself shared this wonderful romaine and strawberry salad topped with a creamy sweet dressing with poppy seeds in it. I had the pork medallions with the Mango Curry sauce which was DEE-licious!. The guys enjoyed and excellent steak and L and A had the St, Jacques...a creamy baked seafood creation surrounded by piped mashed potatoes and topped with melted cheese... They both ate every spec, saying it was tasty, as well.

We meandered home to our place after dinner and had a special coffee with whipped cream and a piece of this yummy desert that L had brought out...called Chinese wedding cake. Here is the gist of it... a cake from a white cake mix for the bottom layer, topped with a layer comprised of vanilla pudding blended with cream cheese, then topped with Pineapple tidbits( drained) followed by a layer of cool whip with a sprinkling of coconut on the top...Excellent light taste and nice moist cake...Thanks L!
E. surprised me with Valentine's box of truffles from a local chocolate shop...including pecan roca with milk chocolate...very Yummy...Thank-you sweetheart!
Time to hit the hay...Gnight and hope you all had a Happy Valentine's Week-end...I certainly had one of my best!
